Google Glass
Overview
Google's first foray into wearable computing.
Role
I participated in our internal Google [x] competition to come up with novel use cases for Google Glass.
Initial Objectives
Create an app to showcase the capabilities and value proposition of Google Glass.
Solution
I came up with a "Dance Dance Revolution"-style game for Google Glass in which arrows shown on the head-mounted display went along with music played through the device's bone-conducting speaker.
Players would score points for bobbing their heads along with the music in the right direction and on-tempo.
Impact
I won first place in the internal Google [x] ideation competition judged by Google [x] leadership including Sergey Brin and Sebastian Thrun and received a Nintendo 3DS as a prize.
I worked with Thad Starner and Nirmal Patel to expand the concept into a Python prototype and applied for a patent covering the concept.
While fun, the concept helped us realize that a head-bobbing interface was not ideal, leading to the addition of a touchpad on the side of the device.
